Wood Care Guide

Caring for Your Handcrafted Wood Piece

Every piece created by Kevin Kimball Woodworker is made from natural hardwood and finished to highlight the beauty of the grain while protecting the wood for everyday use. With proper care, your piece can last for generations.

General Care

Wood is a natural material that expands and contracts with changes in temperature and humidity. Keeping your piece in a stable indoor environment will help maintain its appearance and structure.

Avoid placing wooden pieces in direct sunlight, near heating vents, or in areas with excessive moisture.

Cleaning

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft cloth. For routine cleaning, a slightly damp cloth followed by a dry cloth is usually sufficient. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or excessive water, as these can damage the finish.

Protection

Use coasters, placemats, or trivets to protect surfaces from heat, moisture, and scratches. For cutting boards and wooden kitchen items, occasional treatment with food safe mineral oil will help maintain the wood and prevent drying.

Natural Character

Over time, wood will develop a natural patina and character from use. Small changes in color or grain appearance are part of the living nature of wood and add to the uniqueness of the piece.

With simple care and attention, your handcrafted item can remain both beautiful and functional for many years.
